A September Guide to Following Your Spark

A September Guide to Following Your Spark

What if the thing you've been telling yourself you'll do someday is actually something you're supposed to start now?

I've been thinking about that a lot lately because, for a while, I had convinced myself that 2027 was going to be my year. I was going to start creating again, get back on YouTube, and finally start pursuing the things that used to make me feel excited and inspired.

Then I realized something: I was tired of waiting for my life to start.

So I decided not to wait until 2027.

And what happened next reminded me why taking that first step matters so much. I'm sharing it with you because I have a feeling you might have a “2027” of your own. Some dream, goal, idea, or version of yourself that you've decided you'll become "later."

So stay with me, because before you finish reading this, I was hoping you could figure out what you've been waiting for, why you've been waiting, and most importantly, what your first step can be this September.

I Missed Her

When I started looking through some of my old content, I realized something I wasn't expecting: I missed the girl I saw in those videos.

I missed how excited she was to create. I missed the creative joy I felt while filming and editing. I missed the feeling of making something from nothing and then sharing it with people. I missed reading comments and realizing that something I created had connected with another person.

Most of all, I missed building a community.

I didn't just miss making YouTube videos. I missed the way creating made me feel.

I felt happy. Hopeful. Creative. Like I was moving toward something.

And I wanted to feel like that again.

The Problem With “Someday”

For months, I kept telling myself that I would start again in 2027. I had plenty of reasons for it to make sense.

I hadn't been creating consistently for almost a year. What if I wasn't good anymore? What if my content sucked? What if I'd lost my touch? Maybe I needed more time. Maybe I needed to feel more ready.

But eventually I had to be honest with myself and ask, what am I actually waiting for?

Because at some point, you have to start.

You don't magically become ready because the calendar changes. You don't wake up on January 1st with more confidence, more creativity, or fewer fears than you had the day before.

You just decide that you're willing to begin anyway.

And that's what I finally did.

Following the Spark

For me, following my spark meant deciding to create again.

It meant waking up with something to look forward to. It meant getting out of the cycle of sitting on the couch and making excuses for why I couldn't get up and go after the things I wanted.

It has been surprisingly simple in some ways. I wake up earlier because I'm excited about my day. I brush my hair, take my supplements, start my morning, and actually feel hopeful about what's ahead.

I feel like I'm living again.

And I think that's something we don't talk about enough when it comes to our dreams. Going after something isn't only about the end result. Sometimes it's about what pursuing it gives back to you along the way.

Creating gives me that.

Maybe there's something that does the same for you.

Then This Happened

Two weeks after I decided I wasn't going to wait until 2027, I received an email about my first direct brand collaboration of the year.

I almost cried.

Not because a brand wanted to work with me. Of course that was exciting, but it was the timing that really got me.

I had just made the decision to stop waiting, and suddenly something I'd been hoping for showed up in my inbox. It genuinely felt like a little sign that I had made the right choice and was moving in the right direction.

I'm not telling you this because I think that if you finally decide to chase your dream, the universe is going to immediately drop an opportunity in your lap.

That's not how it works.

There will be rejection. There will be slow seasons. There will be ideas that don't work and things that take much longer than you hoped.

But you can't discover what's waiting for you if you never take the first step.

That email was a reminder that sometimes we don't need to see the entire path before we start walking it.

Give Yourself Grace, But Don't Stay Down Forever

I also want to be careful about something.

It's easy to look back at a season where you weren't doing much and decide that you were lazy, unmotivated, or wasting time. I don't see it that way anymore.

The version of me who spent so much time on the couch and kept making excuses was also mourning and healing from a huge loss. She needed grace. She needed time. She needed to figure things out.

And I can give her all of that grace while still deciding that it's time to move forward.

Maybe that's where you are too.

Maybe you've been in survival mode. Maybe you've been grieving something. Maybe you've been exhausted. Maybe you've simply lost touch with yourself.

You don't have to shame yourself into becoming motivated again.

But eventually, there comes a moment when you get to decide that you're ready to participate in your own life again.

For me, that moment sounded like:

My time is now.

What About Your “2027”?

Now I want you to think about the thing you've been putting off.

Not the thing you think you should want. The thing that actually makes something inside you light up when you think about it.

What have you been telling yourself you'll do later?

Maybe it's starting a business, applying for a new job, creating content, going back to school, taking a trip, picking up an old hobby, writing the book, making the move, or finally pursuing something you've quietly wanted for years.

And what's the reason you've been giving yourself for waiting?

Maybe you're not ready. Maybe you don't have enough money. Maybe you're not confident enough. Maybe you don't have enough followers. Maybe you don't have enough time. Maybe you're afraid you'll try and fail.

I understand all of those reasons because I've used them too.

But I want you to ask yourself the same question I had to ask myself:

What are you actually waiting for?

You don't have to have the whole plan figured out. You don't have to know exactly where it will lead. You don't even have to feel confident.

You just need to decide what the first step is.

Because the version of you that you want to become in 2027 deserves the version of you that you are today to start building her life right now.

Your September Spark List

Take a few minutes and write down the answers. Be honest with yourself, and then don't just close this email and forget about them.

Something I've been waiting to start:

One tiny step I can take this month:

The version of me I'm becoming needs me to:

Your first step might be tiny. That's okay. Send the email. Make the appointment. Open the notebook. Film the first video. Sign up for the class. Put the money aside. Have the conversation.

Whatever it is, let September be the month you stop promising yourself that you'll start someday and actually begin.

You don't need to become a completely different person this fall.

You just need to give yourself permission to follow the spark that's already there.

And who knows? Maybe the thing waiting on the other side of that first step will surprise you.

It certainly surprised me.

Here's to a September where we stop waiting for the “right time” and start making our own time.

Your time doesn't have to be someday. It can be now.

Until next month. ♡
